Pay Attention

Pay Attention

During the Spiritual Journey, always pay attention to the little things, particularly when they are repetitious. Repeated occurrences of something is one of the ways that God gets our attention. Several years ago, I had what I called ‘the dropsies’. The urbandictionary.com defines this phenomenon as “the complete and utter state where you have the tendency to accidentally drop everything you pick up, causing frustration and embarrassment if there are others in the vicinity.” Although in my case there was no frustration or embarrassment,An alert fox sitting in the grass paying attention I realized that I was continually missing what I reached for, and then proceeded to drop it once it was in hand. I would reach for a cup and knock it over. Or bend down to pick something up and miss it, try to pick it up and miss it again. Sometimes I would be carrying something and drop it; or carrying several things and drop all of them. I reached for my car keys and it took three tries to get them in the ignition. Grab for a towel and drop it on the floor. In quiet contemplation, I saw this had been occurring in many areas of my life over several months. I could no longer ignore the repetitive nature that finally garnered me to pay attention. “Lord, what is happening?” was my question. The answer? What is happening in the physical (earthly) realm reflects what is occurring in the spiritual realm. He was showing me that I was not grasping things—securing them firmly, obtaining and holding on tightly. I was not clutching and determinedly taking hold of those things He was teaching me at this stage of my Spiritual Journey. He was showing me that I was not completely comprehending (grasping) what He needed me to understand, which was ultimately reflected in my physical environment as the ‘dropsies’ to get my attention. Always pay attention and ask for help and guidance from the One Who knows.
